Pellet stoves were invented in the 1980's and by 1999 they only had an 11% share of the market. In 2008 this had risen to nearly 43% of the market share. This was at the same time that the average price per gallon of heating oil spiked to nearly $4. As the cost of heatng oil declined so did the sales of Pellet Stoves. They still account for roughly a third of the marketshare.

Well, if you heat your house with oil I don't have to tell you that the cost of oil is back in that range again. Many people will be once again considering a wood stove or a pellet stove.

When looking at a replacement for oil fired heating, pellet stoves make sense. One big advantage is that a pellet stove with a full hopper of pellets will run all night. Compare this to a wood stove which must be tended every couple of hours.

Pellet stoves can even be hooked up to a thermostat. This makes it an easier transition for those switching from oil furnaces.
