We had our Lopi Leyden istalled 8/2009. During our first month of use, the stove was unpredictable. There were times too many pellets were fed and the flame would go out. I tried different settings with different degrees of success. I was worried that I wouldn't or couldn't find a proper setting to run the stove successfully if not satisfactorily.

I now have it set with the restrictor pulled around 1/3 to 1/2 way out and the stove has worked great with their remote wireless thermostat. I am able to set the fan and heat to anything I want and all works perfectly. We burned 1 ton of pellets during our first year.

If someone is having problems with the stove, I believe it has a lot to do with setting the restrictor properly.

I am extremely happy with this stove and recommend it to anyone. Of course this assumes you operate it properly.

The only thing I have yet to learn is, what settings will result in getting the most heat out of the pellets burned.

I have had nothing but problems with this stove which I bought in 08. I have hardly used it each winter because of the problems and trying to get it properly serviced. It was an expensive mistake and I am thinking about going back to a wood stove at the end of this season if it can not be fixed. Problems with the auger in 08 and this year the igniter.

I also have had nothing but problems with my Lopi, Leyden stove.

First the stove flashed on me. Since then I have had numerous auger issues. The blower stopped working yesterday.

The stove is not even a year old. Getting service seems to take weeks.

Can anyone suggest any strategies for working with Travis Industries or their dealers?

    Thanks,

Yeah Since mine was Brand new 3 years ago mine has been nothing but problems.... Giant POS! Auger has gone out every year. Pain in the butt to clean fully. And I have to do it numerous times per year. Dealer really suckered me at $4000.... and I live by my self disabled in a wheelchair! seems after a week after I get it fully cleaned using the best pellets out there it clogs all up and I can only use setting number 3 or lower. I burn threw more pellets in a winter than my best friend with his pellet furnace from tsc for a third of the price and he has never had an issue with it and he has had it for 2 years longer than I have had my lopie... The damn thing is so temperamental. I thought I was making a swith that would ease the work and trouble for me since I am paralyzed using my quadrafire wood stove but I was soooooo wrong! I miss my wood stove soooo much! the only bad part about it was every few weeks doing the work of transfuring the wood from my pile to my porch by myself using my UTV. I would much rather do that than having to price the over priced pellets and then haveing to totaly clean the stove every week or two and then run into the issue of having to go with out any heat for a week and a half while I wait for a part to come in and then have to scheduled an apt for the service guy to install it. with my wood stove even when I didn't have power I at least had heat! This I have heard from consumer reports and other people that it was the worst pellet stove ever made..... If I had the money I would defiantly invest in a different pellet stove. Big wast of 4000 thousand dollars.

Really thinking about putting my wood stove back in this winter and dealing with getting frost bite bringing wood in rather than in my house since the damn thing has broken at least once every year. at least when I am bringing in wood for my wood stove I can come in and warm up! really wish I could get my money back since it is a huge risk to my health but I don't even know where to start......

Just installed this yesterday and it heats very well. Only used it one day, but it seems like it will be perfect for our 2000 sq ft home. Upstairs doesn't heat up much, but does keep it at a decent temp so that I don't need to run the furnace. Our only complaint so far is the fan is VERY noisy even on the lowest speed. It's kind of annoying, but I guess we will get used to it and it's worth it to be warm and save money. I also notice the hopper lid does have a catch half way down which someone else mentioned. They thought it was intentional, but I have no idea what purpose that would serve.

General recommendation: beautiful stove, heats well, but very noisy.

Bought this model in Fall '07. Here is what I've experienced so far
with this model. First of all let me tell you, this is one beautiful pellet stove, as far as estetics is concerned you can't
go wrong with this model. After the installation, we had a problem
with the hooper lid, where it would not properly press down
on the hopper safety switch, in turn the auger would not engage and no pellets would drop. Problem solved, the stove worked w/o problems
all of fall 07 winter 08 without any issues.

    Cleaning:
I cleaned this stove every couple of weeks on average, wether it needed it or not. I just cleaned it out last week and turned it on and realized that the variable speed fan (blower) was stuck on high. the Techs have been called, and the stove is under warranty.

    Performance:
Hopper: In general you will be able to fit (barely) 1 40 lb pellet bag.
    Blower:
This is the best part: Lots of heated air with variable speed which will helps to reduce fan noise, which really isn't noisy.
    Coverage:
I installed the pellet stove in my Living room (17ft vaulted ceilings), and it is able to heat my Living room, Master bedroom (also high ceilings) and dining room and kitchen
(also high ceilings) about 1200 sq ft w/o problems. I would imagine this stove could easily heat a 2000 sq ft area with normal height
    ceilings.

    $$$:
At the current price of oil ($3.50/gal) I'll be saving about
$700-$800 for the winter season, and in case the price of HHO goes
up further during the winter, the savings will add up.

    Overall:
I'm very happy with the stove and I would highly recommend it.
BTW, I stopped by the stove shop last week and prices on these stoves have gone up by about 20%, they are very popular.

I would not recommend this stove, or this company, at least their rep on Long Island. I bought this stove in November 2007 and have had nothing but trouble. The auger jams up and dumps a load of pellets at once, which causes the system to go out. Last night, I filled the hopper, turned the machine back on, and waited for 1/2 hr until I finally turned it off. Not 1 pellet had dropped in the 1/2 hr I waited. I unplugged the system, put my hand into the hopper, pushed the pellets around, and turned the machine back on. This time it worked. I have had this problem on a regular basis since I purchased the stove. The rep from Lopi has been unresponsive. Clearly, they are a company that sells their product then walks away from their customers.

I wish I had read your review before purchasing this stove. It has caused me nothing but headaches. I'm trying to work with Travis to correct the jam problem, but to date have had no success. I'm considering legal action.

I have had my Leyden three years, & replaced the ignitor three times. I am very, very unhappy with this stove.
I will NEVER buy anything else from this company.

My husband and I bought this stove in 2007. Up until now, it has been a good unit with "no issues" other than an auger jam which after speaking with a service tech where we bought it in Northeast PA, my husband was able to fix the problem. I did find this report on the internet from consumer reports for anyone having an "auger" issue:

In our October 2009 report on pellet stoves, two tested units of the Lopi Leyden, $3,600, repeatedly clogged and shut down when we used longer, roughly 1½-inch pellets—something users may encounter because pellet sizes usually aren't marked on bags.

We are now removing our Don't Buy: Performance Problem judgment and have rated it very good overall. Our subsequent tests show that the manufacturer's fix, which involves removing a fuel gate originally added to address poor-quality fuel, appears to correct the problem.

If you experience clogging or other problems with the stove, contact an authorized Lopi dealer. (This is where our problem is, contacting the dealer. This is a joke!)
We now have a problem with the unit shutting down after 20 minutes. We can't even get a service tech to call us back to let us know "WHEN" they can come and fix it! You can't call another dealer because the company will only allow "authorized dealers or tech's who have gone through their training to service them"! So, we bought this pellet stove that no one can service except the dealer we bought it from because there is NO ONE within a 100 mile radius who sells them. If we had known this "rule" that Travis Industries has, we would have NEVER bought this brand. We would have gone with a more generic brand that most pellet stove dealers in the area sell. BUYER BEWARE of any brand Travis sells unless you have numerous dealers who can sell and service in your area.
    TOTALLY DISGUSTED!!!
